Swift Middle School and Watertown High School students received Superintendent’s Awards sponsored by the Connecticut Association of Public School Superintendents on Wednesday, May 1. The award recognizes students whose accomplishments and contributions to their school and community go beyond academic achievement, service and leadership. Members of Holy Disciples Parish, under the auspices of Homefront, helped a neighbor in need on Natalie Terrace in Waterbury on May 11. The volunteers put in three new storm doors, rebuilt cement stairs, new railings, power-washed, painted, did numerous electrical repairs, added safety grab bars, repaired gutters and did needed tree trimming. Homefront is a community based volunteer home repair program that provides quality of life repairs at no cost to homeowners in need.

Seniors from the WHS boys’ lacrosse team were recently honored at senior night Monday, May 13, capping off the evening with a 12-9 win against Holy Cross. The team went on to beat Holy Cross again 11-4 in last Saturday night’s WCLC conference tournament semifinals at home. The Warriors moved on to the championship game against St. Paul Tuesday, May 21. WASHINGTON DEPOT — The Judy Black Memorial Park and Gardens announced an art exhibit featuring works by Jack Rosenberg. The exhibit, “Dancing to the Colors of Life,” will be on view from Friday, May 24 through Sunday, June 16. The show highlights Rosenberg’s representational paintings using bold colors, and his ceramic work. An opening reception will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 25 at 1 Green Hill Rd.

NAUGATUCK — The Naugatuck Chamber’s 19th Annual Duck Race and Festival returns to downtown Naugatuck from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 2 at 87 Maple St. The festival is held rain or shine. The duck race begins at 2 p.m. The event has options for individuals of all ages. The festival features live music from One Bad Oyster, arts and craft vendors, food and drink, and a variety of activities for children. Businesses will also be on hand to exhibit their products and services to the more than 5,000 people who attend each year.
